Makita 5007MG Vs 5007MGA: Which Circular Saw Will Win The Battle?

Makita is a company that repairs and sells electric motors since 1915.

Makita has now grown to become one of the leading manufacturers of power tools in Japan and throughout the world.

To meet the need of consumers, Makita offers fixed woodworking machines, air tools for gardening, and home appliances.

In this article, we will focus mostly on the company's circular saw line.

To be specific, two typical models of Makita 5007MG vs 5007MGA are the most outstanding and best-selling models from this brand.

Let’s get started!

Makita 5007MG Vs 5007MGA - the Similarities

The Makita 5007MGA has some similar characteristics with 5007MG, from easy-to-use ergonomics to similarly-coated framing, etc.

The first thing they have in common is the capacity. Both engines are equipped with a capacity of 15-amp.

The maximum performance can be of up to 5,800 RPM. Such impressive figures!

Both are wired machines, which means you must plug in to operate it.

Weight and Material

The next major resemblance is in material and weight.

Because the circular saw blade is made of magnesium metal, these two items are relatively lightweight as well as easy to carry and hold.

They have the same weight of around 10.6 pounds.

5007MG and 5007MGA both have a sawing power of 2 to ½ inches at an angle of 90 degrees and 3 chamfering levels: 22.5, 45, and 56 degrees.

There are easy-to-use sawing features, including depth and clear bevelled, to help you have full control over the tools while minimizing hand fatigue.

Moreover, the distance between the blade and the outer shell is widened. This helps prevent the blade from falling into the blind spot of the eyes.

It will be difficult to control, resulting in unexpected accidents when such a thing happens.

The 7-¼” blades of these two gadgets are coated with an ultra-thin layer to reduce heat.

Choosing the right blade is important if you want the cuts to go smoothly. The thinner the blade is, the smoother it will go.

Thanks to Makita's exclusive design, these blades deliver precise and definitive cuts. They can cut up to a depth of 2.5 inches through different materials, not just wood.

The cylindrical object sliding along the power cord is to support it from bending and cracking insulation around the wire.

It also keeps wires from being pulled out of the saw.

The space between the two saw teeth on the multi-purpose blade is designed to ensure work efficiency, in regard to two purposes: sawing metal pieces and cutting across the grain.

Principle of operation: They work based on the mechanism when the motor transmits motion to the saw blade.

The worker uses the control handle to let the saw blade move and cut the material as required.

Key Features (of both products):

  • High performance 15 amps - 120V motor, 5800 RPM speed.
  • Built with Magnesium materials.
  • High cutting ability: 90 degrees
  • High cutting capacity: 2-½” at 90 degrees and 1-¾” at 45 degrees
  • Blade diameter: 7-1/4”

If Makita 5007MG supports LEDs, then 5007MGA has an electric brake to save you some time when the blade stops spinning, up to 10 seconds.

When working in the dark, the 2 light-emitting LED light bulb of 5007MG will come in handy.

If you’re not familiar with using a circular saw, you will need something to restraint the force as well as the way to put your blade.

And in this case, the brakes help. They also speed up productivity to the maximum.

There is a slight improvement in the external design of the 5007MGA.

As for the 5007MG line, the manufactures paid more attention to the blades and saws.

The magnesium material makes the saw lightweight and relatively well-balanced for hard works.

The additional design of 5007MG includes a larger gap between the rear handle and the blade shell to create a better grip for the hand.

The saw of 5007MG is attached with the double effect of L.E.D lights. Also, there is a pipe to let iron or wood dust out safely without spreading everywhere in the air.

Makita 5007MG Circular Saw Overview

Makita 5007MG vs Makita 5007MGA

This gadget comes with a 15-amp motor that provides a maximum speed of 5,800 RPM.

It has a decent M-blade of 7-¼” inches, which is premium ultra magnesium coated with carbide tips.

Thanks to this, 5007MG can cut through various materials, from wood to ceramics.

The cutting depth of 2 ½ inches is suitable for DIY enthusiasts who are fond of wood projects.

Even though this tool is not equipped with dust extraction, it does come with a dust blower as an alternative to help blow dust along your cutting line, which is just good enough.

The ergonomic handle with rubber grips makes it easy to hold and reduces the amount of fatigue.

What I like best about this product is the additional LED lights, which are both good at making your workplace brighter and helping you see the cutting lines clearer.

5007MGA is basically an updated version of 5007MG with some additional features.

You can lock the cutting blade with a press of a button, thanks to the spindle lock.

Compared to the method of using a wrench, this alternative is much more convenient.

Professionals may find this feature a deal-breaker as it has an impact on productivity as well as safety.

As for home users with DIY projects, this feature may not be as helpful.

There is a dust chute to keep your cutting line clean from dust and debris, hence making it easier for you to cut the workpiece.

Makita 5007MG or Makita 5007MGA? Which is Better For Cutting?

Let's talk about consumer reviews first.

The debate of Makita 5007MG vs 5007MGA has been going on for a while because both are highly appreciated by customers.

From my perspective, the 5007MGA is hands down the best circular saw on the market, and I like it slightly more than 5007MG. It also appears that customers are more interested in 5007MGA than 5007MG.

As a professional sawmill worker with 25 years of experience, I highly recommend Makita 5007MGA if you’re looking for a tool to rely on in the long run. Thanks to the electric brake, the tool is so much smoother and safer to use.

At first, I thought having this break wouldn’t make any difference, but it has come in handy in many situations, and I’m glad I decided to buy this but not the 5007MG.

Don’t get me wrong, the 5007MG is a decent circular saw, and I like the LED lights feature it has.

But I find the electric brake to be more helpful to have as a sawmill worker/carpenter.

What is more, the right-side blade can make smooth flat cuts at ease.

Weighing around 10 lbs, it cuts with great power, even with wet pressure treated materials.

And the best thing is, it fits the hand no matter what depth or angle cut you make!

Last time I used it to make a 6 foot long cut on plywood, and it blew dust wherever the saw reached before it even piled up.

This made it so easy for me to see since my vision is not so clear anymore.

Of course, it depends mostly on the purpose of using that you choose a suitable gadget.

If you are a DIY home enthusiast, I suggest you choose Makita 5007MG. Makita 5007MG has features LED lights and dust pipes that can come in handy in certain situations. They help amateurs to have a better look at the piece they’re working on, thus support accurate, high in depth cuts.

In contrast, Makita 5007MGA is more suitable for those who are professional mechanics.

You can say 5007MGA is an updated, better version of 5007MG.

It has pretty much all the features 5007MG has and some additional ones, including electric brakes.

The price for 5007MG is fairly reasonable for a decent tool that works, if not cheap.

Meanwhile, 5007MGA costs a little more.

My Final Verdict - Which Makita Saw is for you?

Having a circular saw helps the wood cutting work to be done accurately and effectively.

I assume you must have made your decision by now. Each saw is suitable for certain purposes.

To put it briefly, Makita 5007MG vs 5007MGA is not that different. They are quite similar in design, parameters, blades, and movement.

Even the size of the blade, the angle of cutting, and the levels to which it stops are the same.

Thank you for reading.
